WORD OF THE DAY
Independent reading
Reading independently is an amazing and rewarding process. In grade 10, we practice identifying genres and choosing books that we find interesting. We build our stamina and passion for reading by reading every day. We also set Goals for our reading and strategies to reach those goals that we self-assess at each quarter of the semester. We also use our IR books to expand our vocabulary by having a Word of the Day chosen directly from our books, which gives students the chance to give a Book Talk about their current book to the class. Our Book Bingo Activities keep us thinking critically and creatively about the books we are reading and the world around us.
Independent Reading and the related activities help students meet every Reading and Writing expectation in the curriculum!
